Day 5-8

Day 5
We left the hotel and headed to the famous Aswan dam. We waited on the dam until the traffic was sorted and we rode slowly across as Alex did a lot of his 360 selfie shots. What we did not see, but Vicki did in the van, is that all traffic behind us in Aswan was shut down on the main road while we did this. There is a photo out there somewhere of it but I have not found it yet.
We arrived at Abu Simbel by mid-afternoon and had time to sit around the pool and drink a beer. At dusk we walked over to the Abu Simbel temple that had been disassembled and moved to this location so it would not be flooded when the Nasser Lake was created. The temple was amazing and I thought the light show was OK until I found out that it was not included in my $13 ticket and was in fact $35. Then I was disappointed in it. However, it was still a great time with the group.
The Nefertari Hotel was a little worn, but as there are only two hotels in this Nubian town, it did the job. There was one other couple in the hotel.

The hotel had 5 other guests

We rode back to Aswan. There were a couple of tours, but since we had done them we just hung out at the pool and went to the market with a group that night.

A little light maintenance in the parking lot.

Day 7

Out early again headed for Luxor. Not a bad ride and we did a big photo at the Valley of the Kings.
There were a couple of  afternoon tours, but we stayed in and had a few gin and tonics.

Vicki rides in the CEC 2014 with Tarek, the nicest guy in the world. Really!!

Botti, from Italy, started on a motorcycle but they could not keep it running so he switched to a scooter.  One day is all it took and he was in the van.. Despite having a Vespa in Italy he said here it was too dangerous. The other broken motorcycle rider said the same.  Wimps!

Day 8

Today we rode hard to reach Asyut.  This is just a city on the Nile and we spent the night on a river cruise ship.  We had a grand reception with all the local dignitaries and school children lining the street with flags As it was a big event for them to host us.. We had our farewell meeting here.
